Bonjour,
Je transfère ce message d’informations (et de questions) du président de ERME.
Simon

———————-

Dear ERME Members,

In less than one year, we will be welcomed by the Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia, to CERME15. The dates for the congress are 8-12 February 2027, with YERME Day to be held on 7-8 February. I am pleased to inform you that the first announcement is now ready. It can be found on the main website of the congress, https://www.cerme15.org/, as well as on the ERME site, http://erme.site/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/First_announcement.pdf

In the announcement you will find some important dates. I will only mention one here, namely the deadline for submitting contributions, which is set to 15 September 2026.

I will also take the opportunity to mention that the proceedings from CERME14 are available. This was announced on the ERME site in December, and the full proceedings can be found on this link, http://erme.site/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/ProceedingCerme14_20251203.pdf

In 2026, two out of a total of 10 ETCs have already been completed: CITAD8 (ETC25) in Barcelona in January and Connecting the Learning of Mathematics Teaching to Practice (ETC19) in Prague in February. Regarding ETC19, the proceedings are also already available and can be found here, http://erme.site/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/ETC19_proceedings.pdf. See the ERME site for more in information about this year’s ETCs.

Finally, I will convey a couple of sad messages: Former president of ERME, and a member of the ERME community since the very beginning, Barbara Jaworski passed away unexpectedly on 10 December 2025 at age 81. An obituary was published on the ERME site in January and can be found here, http://erme.site/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Barbara%20Jaworski%20Obituary.pdf

I have also been informed about the death of another long-standing member of the ERME community, Hartwig Meißner who passed away on 11 February 2026 at age 87. A brief obituary (in German) can be found here, https://www.trauer.ms/traueranzeige/prof-dr-hartwig-meissner-2026-02-11-muenster-9769867

This leads me to my last point of the mail: According to the obituary and also to information found on madipedia.de, professor Meißner was part of the group that founded ERME. I have a request to those of you who have information about the foundation of ERME. I only know what is written on the ERME site, that there was a meeting in Osnabrück in May 1997 where the initiative to ERME was taken, and that the actual foundation took place the year after, at CERME1, also in Osnabrück. CERME1 is reasonably well documented through the proceedings, but about the meeting in 1997 I know next to nothing. Who were there, who took the initiative, what was discussed, …. ?

In short, I am interested in any information about the early days of ERME, so for those of you who have such information, I would be very grateful if you would write to me about this. Based on the information, I will write a piece about the history to publish on the ERME site. Perhaps it could also be possible to say a few words about the history during CERME15, since in 2027 it will be 30 years since the meeting in Osnabrück.

Kind regards,
on behalf of the ERME Board,
Frode
