Dear colleague,

We would like to share with you information about the next edition of Quality Class 2025. As we could not find a proper conference to visit with QC during the next summer, the next edition of Quality Class is organized by ourselves in cooperation with University of Poznan in Poland. It will take place from 18 to 27 of July and will be divided in two parts: students’ workshops (from 19 to 23 of July) and sessions with invited speakers (from 23 to 27 of July). Among them Prof. Edyta Juskowiak (Poznan, Poland), Prof. Jarmila Novotna (Prague, Czech), Prof. Ornella Robutti (Torino, Italy) and Prof. Miroslawa Sajka (Krakow, Poland). Attached you find the abstracts of all invited speakers.

As usual we invite students from your university to participate in this event.

At Quality Class we welcome student-teachers who focus on mathematics education of students aged from 12 to 18. Sometimes we also allow primary school teachers, but our focus is on these age groups. We are most willing to welcome students of Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees programs. In special cases we may also allow PhD-students to participate, but please communicate with us about these exceptions.

We invite a group of 2-4 students from each university. The group has to prepare a workshop on mathematics education, which is mostly an activity for students in the classroom. We will discuss the activity from a teacher’s perspective, so we will focus on didactic rather than mathematical issues.

Attached you find a letter to the students to inform them.

To give you an idea of what the workshop might focus on, we provide a list of possibilities, but please invite your students to make their own choice of the workshop topic.

Examples of workshop topics:

  • How to teach the introduction of variables?
  • How to teach algebra in grade 7?
  • The use of materials in math lessons to learn fractions.
  • How to use of technology in grade 10 to teach geometric proofs
  • What are sine and cosine for 9th grade students?
  • Didactical models for teaching calculations with positive and negative numbers.

As you can see, the aim of the workshop should not be the mathematical issue itself, but rather the discussion of its didactic aspects. If your students have any doubts or questions about choosing a topic, please do not hesitate to ask.

Attached you’ll find general information for those who are not familiar with Quality Class.

The fee for Quality class is € 245,- and includes materials of workshops and presentations. The welcoming dinner and the conference closing dinner are included.

We will live in a brand new student dormitory, with the possibility of preparing our own meals. Double rooms are available for a reasonable price of 240 PLN/night for a double room with a bathroom and kitchenette. There are also some single rooms at 180 PLN/night.

If some of your students are interested in participating in Quality Class 2025, please ask them to send an e-mail to: STA@Lambrechtspijkerboer.nl. I will reply with an invitation to write a cover letter.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have.

If you have suggestions to send this information to other universities, please provide their names and mailing addresses.

Please keep me updated.

Yours,

Lambrecht Spijkerboer (tutor)
